Shelter in Place - 2020 on pause

Our spring has been paused due to the Corona Virus.  I've been WFH since 3/12 and the kids have been out of school since 3/16.  WFH will continue for the forseeable future and traditional school is canceled until mid may at the earliest.  Online school should start in earnest maybe next week. Work hasn't slowed down and really is going crazy due to the market panic due to businesses being closed for the virus.  It's not terrible where we are, but in parts of the country they are making plans for 4 people per ventilator and prepping hockey rinks for morgues.   It's most definitely SNAFU! I went the first week school was out and got a weight set for my son since it was clear all gyms were going to close.  Luckily we found a decent set on craigslist.  We've been working out at home, seems I've signed myself up for a HS weightlifting class.  9Round has closed but has started putting workouts online.  I've tried to keep doing them ...

SNAFU is the norm

The coronavirus has hit the US now and NC.  I'm working remote for the forseeable future.  No one seems to know exactly what to expect.  For us we are looking at prepping for being home and isolated for a couple weeks.  No idea if schools are going to get canceled but the strong rumor is that it will be.  Already all sports activities after today are canceled throughout the state and county.  I'm excited that my daughter has decided to start going to 9Round with me some in an effort to jump start her fitness for her synchronized swimming goals.  We went last night for the first time.  She did pretty well.  I was surprised she kept up on the parking lot runs where as ya know I lost ground with every step. I have run some in the last couple weeks which is a good step for me since I'd slacked off on running during the winter. We haven't scheduled our next 5k yet and with things being canceled for awhile I don't have any idea when we'll g...

Gold Gloves

Image
No doubt as a kid I thought it'd be cool to win a couple Gold Gloves.  But I sure never thought they'd look like this: I got a set of signed 'gold' gloves from the 9Round corporate signed by the owners of the company.  I've been using them the last couple times I went.  Let's just say my old ones were definitely showing their wear and ready to be replaced. Next update 3/12/20

Crazy Winter

Image
We aren't really having a winter so far.  We've had several days near 70 and some in the 70s. We did have some snow for a hour or two last week, but since it had been in the 70s earlier in the week it had no chance of sticking. I'm pleased with my result from the Gold Rush 5k.  By the timer my rate was 11:46 min/mi and my tracker says 11:15 min/mi because I tracked it at 3.29 miles versus 3.1.  It was definitely a hilly course but I was pleased with the time. I've stayed the course with working out, been trying to be more diligent about watching diet and I saw 276 again on my scale this week so that is very encouraging.   I got an email from 9Round corporate last week.  I completed my 500th workout, probably was a few weeks or months go given how often I forget to scan my card.  I was supposed to send them an image of me in the club and they will maybe send me some swag.  I sent them a pic with Tyler the Gym Owner the other day....

Obligatory witty post title.

We have our first 5k of the year Saturday.  It's supposed to be a very hilly course on UNCC campus.  Should be a challenging run and definitely not a PR time! I'm doing well with hitting the gym and staying active.  Not doing well with running.  I've run on a couple Sunday afternoons but Tue & Thur am's I've napped after getting the boy up and then walked on the treadmill inside rather than run in the cold and/or rain outside.  For me the hardest step is the first one out the door for a run especially in the dark early morning hours. Another goal I have for the year is to try to grab lunch once a months with someone I've lost regular contact with.  In early Jan I met up with a buddy from my early days at TIAA.  Hoping to catch up with another friend from BAC in the next few weeks. The election and impeachment are a real drag.  I've deleted the FB app from my phone and trying to ignore the impending drama.  We vote in just over 30 da...

2020 Goals a week late

Image
It's 2020 an even decade year which so far looks like it is going to be a crazy hectic year!  Our summer is basically already full which seems crazy but is a reality. We have camps and tournaments scheduled all around for the summer. I have been lazy and not run for distance since the last 5k of 2019.  I've been running a 1/2-3/4 of a a mile as part of my 9round workouts and logging lots of miles on the treadmill, but actual running. I was pleased to clip off 2 miles yesterday at just under 11.5 min per mile It was an early afternoon run and I always do better time-wise on those.  It ended up being a beautiful late spring day around 70 in mid-January! I've decided on my goals for 2020.  Not 100% they are realistic but I kinda sandbag some on my personal goals for 2019 so I want to stretch myself this year: Finish a 10k run Complete a 5k run with a 10 min/mile pace. Weigh under 250 lbs by 1/2/2021 It will be tough I need to get back on track with ...

2019 Is nearly a wrap

Image
2919 is closing fast!  It's been 3.5 years since I started this journey to get in better health.  I've kept up with exercise this year, but haven't lost any weight this year.  This is the first year of the journey I've finished at a net 0 but considering I've been up 5-10 lbs several times this year to get back to net 0. I finished the Jingle Bull Run with a pace of 11:08 min/mile which should have gotten me my under 35 min finish, but I guess the course was a bit longer than 3.1.  At any rate I finished nearly 5 min under my time for the same race last year. I got the guard installed on my table saw which was the last thing I wanted to do to consider my shop complete for the year.  I'm hoping to get to work out there some more over the holidays. This has been a challenging year at work, but we did get some recognition for a big project I've been working on the last 18 months so that was nice. I'm not set on what goals I...
