Summer Heat is here

The summer heat is here with a vengeance lately!!  Last weekend we were in the upper 90s and man it was hot.  The kids wanted to go to the pool so I spent several hours holed up under some shade while they played around in the water.  We did get some work done around the house.  I'm working mortaring in our rock edging around the house.  Hopefully I can get finished this next weekend.

We got an invite to do a 5k for free a couple weekends ago and I got a new PR.


I'm confident I can make my goal for under 35 min before the end of the year.  This run was tough with the hills and the heat, so if I can keep up the running I'll get there for sure.  I placed 4th in my age group, the boy was 2nd overall and first for his age group.

The mergers for our kids sports clubs are evening out and look like they will be fine.  My son ended up on a different team this year, but is very excited about the possibility of a winning season.  I'm excited about significantly less fee for him to play this year.

I'm scouting out weekends in the fall for a camping trip.  It's on my list to accomplish this year so I plan to cross that off too.

A couple weeks ago I took the time to re-read all of my blog entries over the last year.  It's amazing now to look back at where I was and think back about it. One thing I want to do is thank several folks who've been very encouraging over the year, my wife especially for her support and willingness to change our routines to accommodate me not to mention the money we've spent of shoes, trackers and gym memberships.  Also I've greatly appreciated the support from the CAD Brethren , you guys have been awesome particularly Zhunzi and Capwilson.  It's great to know you always have someone in your corner. Only 3 weeks in?

Wow I checked back at the blog. Seems like I've been doing this walking thing forever at this point, at least a month or so. However this is only the end of my 3rd full week. Really feels like longer, but it is what it is. I had been walking some at work in the weeks before so maybe in my mind I'm tying that in. Doesn't really matter in the long run, just a thought I had today. Even if it's only 3 weeks in I feel much better, I did skip my walk yesterday morning. I hadn't slept well and when the dog woke me up at 5 I thought let me move my alarm up so I can at least get an hours sleep before work. Guess how that worked out? Anyway I kinda justified it because I was planning to mow after work and that's walking too right? It's a cop out no doubt. I did however track my walk while mowing. (Special shout out to my wife for encouraging me to do that, and also encouraging me over the last 3 weeks as I've started this journey.) Interestingly enough

9 Round and other musings

First I want to highlight the impact starting 9Round has made on my journey.  My overall health is greatly improved and I've been going now for just over 3 months.  From a statistical stand point it's a very clear success.  From May 14th, when my bathroom scale starting giving me something other than E, through Nov 13th my average weekly weight loss was 1.33 lbs.  From Nov 13 to to Feb 28 my weekly weight loss average jumped to 1.60 lbs.  That is an increase of 20%.  My average monthly weight loss jumped from 3 lbs to 8 lbs. From Jan 1 to Nov 13 I had lost 59 lbs, from Nov 13 to Feb 28 I've lost  28 lbs. 1/2 the weight in 3 months that I lost in the previous 11!!! You can also see this jump visually in the charts I'm using to track my journey in excel.
